this is my family, taken on 12/25/1999, on langkawi island, malaysian state of kedah; in front of a park entrance to "legenda langkawi" where the legends of that island are captured in miniaturisation of sceneries and statues.from left to right: our son (leonard), my lovely wife(tc) and jonathan.
my family lives in the state of penang, which consists of the (tortoise-shaped) island and a strip of the mainland opposite it. the 13km long 'penang bridge' connects them since 1986. a 2nd link is being planned.
[penang state = penang island + province wellesley aka seberang perai (in malay).] [penang island is 'pulau pinang' locally. the capital is known even till this day as georgetown, which was given the status of city by QE2 in 1957. today we have about a population of 1.2 million inhibitants, many moved from other states to work in our industrial zones. the next important revenue earner to our state (which lacks in land resources) is the tourism industry. 5-star hotels are mostly located on the northern beaches of the island. penang's racial compositions are mainly the malays, chinese, indians and some europeans and about 200 japanese.
