Green Bean Casseroles and Jaundiced Eyes..Essay

"Green Bean Casserole."

The ultimate bane of the "back of the box" cooking of Americana from the 50s and 60s!!
It rates up there with the "Tuna Potato Chip Casserole" as one of the most horrid things to ever crawl from an oven like a slimy disgusting creature from pond scum in the hands of an otherwise loving mother.
My gut wretches at the mention of such things...
I have spoken of this before to yee more worldly folk.
Welp, as it happened, the Old Lady had committed me to make the "promised" journey south today.
You see, our pals down in the Kingsville area had long ago compelled us to come get some furniture items and a set of china that they were no longer using.
It ain't too far... just 150 miles and a few hours drive, but we don't get there very often 'cause we "just don't"... ya know???

Welp, we arrived there this morning and had all our usual "bullshitting" time (talking) and then went to lunch at a local and somewhat famous restaurant.
Then we went to their place again and loaded the furniture and boxed china in the truck.
At this point I had never seen the china.
No big deal to me... I will eat off anything!! I don't care!!
We then elected to load up and go out to their ranch and shoot some targets.
I had brought along my Winchester Model 94 which I had yet to get used to (given my nature, I always try to plan an alternate distraction).
After the event was over... about 1600... we had to leave in order to get back in time to feed the critters here at Rancho Problemas.
Welp, as the Old Lady was unpacking the china from the boxes I was unaware that she and her female pal had set a trap for me.
Suzanne held up a casserole dish, said "JD! Ginny said to tell you that a LOT of Green Bean Casseroles have been served in this dish!"
"That's it!!!!" I yelled loudly and sarcastically!!!!
Forever I will cast a jaundiced eye upon that certain dish no matter what is in it!!!!
It will never escape my suspicion! Not ever!! Not ever!!
JD<----thinking that dish will make a great target!
